Defamation

One of our favourite areas is defamation.

While at his previous firm Dan Parker was junior counsel in the successful defamation claim brought by Selwyn Cushing against Winston Peters ([1994] 3 NZLR 30) which involved issues of parliamentary privilege and repetition outside parliament and
appearing with senior counsel at approximately 10 hearings through various interlocutory stages, hearings and appeals from the District Court to the Court of Appeal.

During 2005, Parker & Associates acted for former MP Ken Shirley to defend a claim brought against him by a deer recovery operator and former police officer. The deer recovery operator discontinued his claim after 2 days of hearing.

We are currently acting for Mr Shirley in defence of a claim against him by Winston Peters following reference to an affidavit in parliament and a subsequent appearance on the Holmes show.
