Brad Cuff

Brad joined the firm as a Senior Associate in May 2010. Brad specialises in all
aspects of insurance law, commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Insurance Law

Brad is an insurance law specialist. He has over 10 years experience in the insurance
industry in Australia. Before returning to New Zealand Brad was a Senior Associate
in the Insurance and Corporate Disputes Group of Minter Ellison, Lawyers, in
Sydney.

Brad has extensive experience in drafting policy wordings, policy interpretation,
coverage advice and acting on behalf of insuers in respect of professional indemnity,
directors and officers, information and network technology and other liability
insurance claims.

Brad acted on behalf of a number of financial planners, on instruction from insurers,
in the Westpoint class action commenced by ASIC in Australia and in the Aristocrat
class action, the largest in Australian history.

Brad has also acted on behalf of medical practitioners in defence of medical
malpractice, disciplinary matters, coronial inquests and criminal prosecutions.

Brad has also drafted and advised on professional indemnity, directors and officers
and other liability insurance policies for a number of Australia and New Zealand’s
leading insurers.

Commercial Litigation

Brad has had the conduct of a number of commercial litigation matters acting for
publicly listed companies. These include litigation involving contractual disputes,
pursuing former directors and resisting applications from shareholders to access books
and records of public companies.

General

Brad joined the firm from Minter Ellison in Sydney where he was a Senior Associate.
Prior to this Brad was the Head of Legal, Risk Management and Compliance at
Chubb Insurance Company in Sydney and prior to this a solicitor at United Medical
Protection, Australia’s largest medical defence organisation.

Brad is originally from Palmerston North and has returned to New Zealand after 15
years overseas.

Publications and Presentations

Brad has given numerous presentations to insurers, brokers, and insurance industry
events on matters of insurance law. He has also published insurance law articles and co-authored the insurance law chapter of the Austrlaian LexisNexis online.
